Create a budget
Budgets are the foundation of Moniepot. Each budget covers a single calendar month and contains spending categories with individual limits.
Before you begin
You need a Moniepot account. Your first 21 days are free — no credit card required.
Create your first budget
- 1Go to Budgets in the sidebar and click New budget.
- 2Budget type — choose Personal, Household, Business, or Other.
- 3Income — enter expected income and how much you want to budget for the month.
- 4Categories — add categories manually, use a template, or tap Use These Categories under Quick Start to copy your previous month's active categories.
- 5Savings goals (optional) — add goals or skip.
- 6Review — confirm details and create the budget.
Add categories
Categories let you track spending by area — groceries, rent, dining out, etc.
- 1Use Quick Start to import last month's categories with current limits and metadata.
- 2Or click Add category and enter a name and spending limit.
- 3Repeat until your budget amount is fully assigned.
You don't need every category upfront. Add or edit more anytime from the budget detail page.
Use a template
Start from a pre-built structure instead of scratch.
- 1Go to Budgets → Templates.
- 2Browse available templates.
- 3Click Use template on the one you want.
- 4Adjust the amounts to match your situation, then save.
Duplicate a previous budget
Copy an existing budget to a new month — all categories and limits are copied, transactions are not.
- 1Go to Budgets.
- 2Find the budget you want to copy and click the ⋯ menu.
- 3Select Duplicate.
- 4Choose the target month and year.
- 5Click Duplicate budget.
