Add a transaction
Moniepot gives you four ways to add money movements: Quick Add, Bulk Entry, Import (receipt or spreadsheet), and Add Income.
Choose the right method
Pick based on how many items you have and where the data comes from.
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| Quick Add | One expense, or a receipt scanned as a single total |
| Bulk Entry | Typing several transactions by hand |
| Import | A multi-item receipt (photo/PDF) or a spreadsheet upload |
| Add Income | Recording income to your budget |
Quick entry
The fastest way to log a single transaction.
- 1From the Dashboard or Transactions page, click Add transaction → Quick entry.
- 2Fill in the amount, description, date, budget, and category.
- 3Optionally use Scan Receipt to fill a single total from a photo.
- 4Optionally add Notes for extra context.
- 5Click Save transaction.
Recent categories appear at the top of the list so you can pick them in one tap.
Bulk manual entry
Add multiple transactions at once using a spreadsheet-style interface.
- 1Click Add transaction → Bulk entry.
- 2Fill in each row with amount, description, date, and category.
- 3Click Add row to add more rows.
- 4Fix any validation errors highlighted in red.
- 5Click Review to check for duplicates, then Confirm to save.
Moniepot auto-saves your work as a draft, so if you close the dialog by accident you can pick up where you left off.
Import (receipt or spreadsheet)
Import is one place for full receipts and spreadsheets—no extra menu item.
- 1Click Add transaction → Import.
- 2Choose Scan or upload receipt (photo or PDF) or Upload CSV.
- 3For receipts: review each suggested purchase and category. Rows marked Needs review must be checked before confirming.
- 4Confirm after any duplicate checks.
Suggestions are only suggestions—nothing is saved until you confirm. Receipt files are used for that scan only and are not stored.
Import receipt scans use your monthly allowance (25 per account; shared on group plans). Quick Add single-total scans do not.
Add income
Income transactions work slightly differently — they don't need a category.
- 1Click Add transaction → Add income.
- 2Enter the amount, description, and date.
- 3Select the budget to credit.
- 4Click Save.
Edit a transaction
Editing opens an inline form directly in the transaction row — no separate page needed.
- 1Go to Transactions.
- 2Find the transaction — use the search bar or filters to narrow by budget, date, or category.
- 3Click the edit icon (pencil) in the actions column on the right.
- 4The row expands with an inline edit form. Update the fields you need.
- 5Click Save to apply the changes.
Only Owners and Editors can edit transactions. Viewers have read-only access.
Delete a transaction
- 1Find the transaction in the Transactions list.
- 2Click the delete icon (trash) in the actions column.
- 3Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.
On mobile, tap a transaction card to reveal the Edit and Delete action buttons at the bottom of the card.
