Add a transaction

Moniepot gives you three ways to add transactions depending on how many you need to enter and where the data is coming from.

MethodBest for
Quick entryAdding one transaction at a time
Bulk manual entryAdding several transactions at once
CSV importImporting a bank export or spreadsheet

Quick entry

The fastest way to log a single transaction.

  1. 1From the Dashboard or Transactions page, click Add transactionQuick entry.
  2. 2Fill in the amount, description, date, budget, and category.
  3. 3Optionally add Notes for extra context.
  4. 4Click Save transaction.

Recent categories appear at the top of the list so you can pick them in one tap.

Bulk manual entry

Add multiple transactions at once using a spreadsheet-style interface.

  1. 1Click Add transactionBulk entry.
  2. 2Fill in each row with amount, description, date, and category.
  3. 3Click Add row to add more rows.
  4. 4Fix any validation errors highlighted in red.
  5. 5Click Review to check for duplicates, then Confirm to save.

Moniepot auto-saves your work as a draft, so if you close the dialog by accident you can pick up where you left off.

Add income

Income transactions work slightly differently — they don't need a category.

  1. 1Click Add transactionAdd income.
  2. 2Enter the amount, description, and date.
  3. 3Select the budget to credit.
  4. 4Click Save.

Edit a transaction

Editing opens an inline form directly in the transaction row — no separate page needed.

  1. 1Go to Transactions.
  2. 2Find the transaction — use the search bar or filters to narrow by budget, date, or category.
  3. 3Click the edit icon (pencil) in the actions column on the right.
  4. 4The row expands with an inline edit form. Update the fields you need.
  5. 5Click Save to apply the changes.

Only Owners and Editors can edit transactions. Viewers have read-only access.

Delete a transaction

  1. 1Find the transaction in the Transactions list.
  2. 2Click the delete icon (trash) in the actions column.
  3. 3Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.

On mobile, tap a transaction card to reveal the Edit and Delete action buttons at the bottom of the card.
